What is Remembered
New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1963. Second printing. 8vo, 186pp. Photos, illustrations. Presentation copy, inscribed by Toklas "For Charles - Al. B.T." on the ffep. Purple and beige cloth boards decorated and lettered in gilt in jacket designed by Ben Feder Inc. with a drawing of Toklas on rear panel by Roger Baker. Toning to endpapers, small marginal stain to pgs 8-21 else a near fine copy in price-clipped jacket which shows some toning and rubbing to spine. Very good.
Intriguing copy of this memoir by the influential figure of the Parisian avant-garde, culinary writer, and muse of Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas (1877-1967). This autobiography of sorts was published some 30 years after Stein's famous Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, which became her best selling book.
The book was published four years before her death, and at a time where Toklas was in poor health. We note only one other inscribed copy of this title in auction records, also a presentation copy. Item #8170
Price: $1,250.00
