Madrigals for the Space Age

Madrigals for the Space Age

New York: Associated Music Publishers, Inc., 1972. First edition. 8vo. 43pp. Blue and purple wrappers, staple-bound, mild toning and wear, near fine.

This work was commissioned by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia to celebrate their 75th anniversary year. It premiered at regional conventions in the fall of 1972 and was performed frequently for several years following its publication. Some notable early performances include the Los Angeles Master Chorale under the direction of Roger Wagner at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in 1973 and the Village Voices Chorale in California featuring Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin as the narrator in 1974. Wagner conducted the piece again in 1976 as part of the US Bicentennial celebration with Jimmy Stewart as the narrator (and composer Aaron Copland conducting his own work earlier in the program).

Well-represented institutionally, but often hard to find for Bradbury collectors.
